Jewelry shouldn’t be limited to that of your neck, arms and ear lobes. There is plenty of room to play with chains all over the body and with this tutorial you can make a body chain to wear this summer! I love the look of a body chain layered with a bikini as it adds a little extra sparkle to the body. I wore this one while I was on vacation in Hawaii and loved how it looked with a more minimal bikini. I am also looking forward to pairing this body chain with festival outfits as I think it would also look pretty good with lacey bralettes and camis. I’ve also done a separate tutorial on a simple body chain that takes no less than 5 minutes to whip together for those who aren’t keen on this more complicated design. Happy DIY-ing!

How would you style it?

TIME | 20 mins

COST | $10

What You’ll Need:

  • Fine Chain (preferably gold filled or at least gold plated to reduce tarnishing)
  • Lobster Clasps x 2
  • Jump Rings 3mm diameter size

Forewarning: it’s a little tricky to make this one as there are a lot of chains and pieces moving around so the best is to have a flat surface to lay each pieces out prior to connecting them together. I’ve included the dimensions I used per strand in the image above, adjust accordingly if you need it to be larger or smaller. For reference, I wear a 32A bra, size XS/S in most tops. I found that it helped to have a dress form on hand to drape the piece over but if you don’t have one then it is best to try it on as you go.

  1. Cut pieces to length
  2. Use jump rings to attach chains together
  3. Use small pieces of chain and jump rings to create a chain extension

I would advise to avoid water if you would like your body chain to last longer, also be sure to be sun safe when wearing this as no one needs extra tan lines!

A vacation post all about Kauai, the Garden Isle of Hawaii is going soon! In the meantime some vacation images can be seen on my Instagram! and like always, if you happen to recreate this DIY, use the hashtag #DECONSTRUT so I can see it 🙂
