DIY | 3 EASY T-SHIRT TRANSFORMATIONS

I’m trying something different… something a little bit new and unusual but I think it will help in sharing my DIYs with you! I’ve decided to launch a channel on Youtube for Deconstrut! I don’t have any video training so this will be quite the journey getting the grasp of shooting and composing videos!

For my very first video, I decided to do a tutorial on 3 super easy t-shirt transformations! A white tee is already very versatile on its own but its also a great base to build things on top of! I created all of these projects within an afternoon and there is no rule to say you can’t do these projects with other t-shirts, new or thrifted!

I used men’s Hanes T-shirts from here in a size Small.

TIME | 5mins – 30mins

DIFFICULTY | easy

T-shirt Transformation #1: CROPPED TEE

T-shirt Transformation #2: OFF THE SHOULDER PEASANT TOP

T-shirt Transformation #3: TUBE TOP

T-shirt Transformation #1: CROPPED TEE
What you’ll need
  • White T-shirt
  • Scissors
Steps
  1. Mark how short you want to crop the shirt to
  2. Cut
  3. Pull on the raw hems to have them roll

T-shirt Transformation #2: OFF THE SHOULDER PEASANT TOP
What you’ll need
  • White T-shirt
  • Sewing Machine
  • Elastic
Steps
  1. Cut the shirt into a wide boat-like neckline, trim the sleeves as well
  2. Measure elastic that will fit comfortably around your torso and shoulders, subtract 1″ and cut.
  3. Repeat step 2 for elastic measurements around your waist and arms (for arms do not subtract 1″, I found it a bit tight on my arms after filming, would recommend just using regular bicep measurement)
  4. Overlap the ends of the elastic and sew them into individual loops
  5. Take the off-the-shoulder elastic loop and by folding over the edges of the top of the boat neckline encase the elastic. Be careful not to sew on top of the elastic, the elastic should move freely.
  6. Repeat step 5 with the waist elastic and arms

T-shirt Transformation #3: TUBE TOP
What you’ll need
  • White T-shirt
  • Sewing Machine
Steps
  1. Take the remainder of a t-shirt or cut off the bottom of one the length of a tube top that you would like
  2. Trim the rectangle to size using the following measurements:
    1. The top measurement is bust/2 -1
    2. The bottom measurement is waist/2 -1
  3. Sew up the open edge with the inside facing out
  4. Flip right side out

As always, if you happen to recreate these please share and use the hashtag #DECONSTRUT so I can see all your creations! Happy DIY-ing!
