Making the Le Club Top

This is the tee you’ll want in your closet.

Ever since I spotted it on the Orseund Iris site I knew I wanted it (along with everything else on the site…) but as it’s a bit out of budget I decided to try my hand at making it. This is my recreated version of the Orseund Iris best seller, Le Club top. The satin cropped tee comes in multiple colours and some polka-dotted prints on the site. Follow along as I try to recreate the Le Club top!

I’ve also recreated another Orseund Iris piece here in the past, be sure to check it out!

General Pattern Shapes

The bottom edge: A + (2xB) of the pattern pieces should equal to your waist measurement with a bit of ease(approx. 0.5”) + 4” (gathers).

The sleeve should be extended for every time you intend to fold the sleeve over at the end plus seam allowance. Better to over extend the length of C and trim it afterwards.

Steps

  1. Create a pattern using a relaxed fit t-shirt. You will need a split back pattern piece, a front piece (that accommodates for the gathers) and sleeve pattern pieces.

  2. Cut out your pattern pieces and cut strap pieces on the bias. The waist tie bias straps should be cut at 2 1/4” width; and the back of the top and neck finishing straps should be 1 1/2” wide. The total length of my waist tie was 109”.

  3. Create the gathers for the underbust area by stitching two gathering lines along the bottom of the front piece with a long stitch length (4+).

  4. Taking the two top threads gently pull to gather the fabric on each side. I found it helpful to have the center points of the gathers marked beforehand. Secure these threads or sew a staying stitch along the bottom.

  5. With the good side facing, sew the shoulder seams.

  6. Pin and attach the sleeves to the shoulders

  7. Sew up the sides of the top and sleeves.

  8. Complete the split back by attaching the bias cut pieces (ironed lengthwise) and topstitching it down the length of the back opening on either side.

  9. Iron and prep the waistband strap by attaching strips together for length and then ironing into a double bias fold.

  10. Pin the center point of the strap to the front center of the top

  11. Sew one edge of the bias to the inside of the main top

  12. Fold and press with an iron, then sew along the outside with all the raw edges hidden inside. The strap should hold the main top edge within itself, and fold onto itself for a clean finish.

  13. Topstitch down the entire length of the strap.

  14. Repeat this same method with the neckline for the clean finish.

  15. Leave about 1/2” on either end of the neck strap for the snap buttons

  16. Tack on the snap buttons to the neck straps

  17. Lastly, fold and hand tack the sleeves at the top of the arm and under the armpit section to hold the folds in place.
