Tutorial 1: Bleach tie-dye

Tie-dye has become super popular during this quarantine time. Maybe it gained popularity because of tik-tok but either way, this DIY Nike sock version is a fun and easy way to change up a pair of plain black socks in your closet. I decided to bleach my socks to achieve the tie-dye look. Note: Bleach tie-dye works best on a cotton majority-based clothing item.

What you'll need:

  • 1 pair of Nike socks

  • Household bleach

  • Elastics

  • Container to mix the bleach solution within (something with a spout or that can pour)

  • Plastic gloves

  • Plastic bag

  • Bucket

  • Water

Steps:

  1. Scrunch up the socks and tie elastics tightly around the sock bundles.

  2. Mix one part bleach with one part water in your container of choice.

  3. With a plastic bag or sheet laid down and rubber gloves on, pour the bleach solution on top of the socks. Make sure to soak them thoroughly so that the bleach can penetrate into the socks.

  4. Wait for the socks to lighten in colour (I waited about 20-30 mins).

  5. Remove the elastics and rinse the socks out thoroughly in a bucket of water until the water runs clear.

  6. Be sure to wash your socks well apart from other items before wearing.

Tutorial 2: Bling it out

What you'll need:

Steps:

  1. Put a piece of cardstock or ardboard in the sock to have a flat surface

  2. Manouever crystals into place on the sock

  3. Apply firm pressure with the hot fix tool for 10 seconds and release.

  4. Repeat until you have covered the desired area.

Tutorial 3: Embroidery

What you'll need:

  • 1 pair of Nike socks

  • Embroidery thread

  • Needle

  • Scissors

Steps:

  1. Take the petal color of the daisies and form 6 petals. The petal stitch consists of a loop that is pinned down at the top. The easiest method was to do the petals opposite of each other to help with spacing. Taking your thread, form a loop by coming upwards and back down right beside the initial hole. Let there be slack to form the petal and come up near the top of the loop to pin the slacked thread down into a loop shape.

  2. Centers of the daisies are created with a french knot. Take the needle and wrap the thread around the needle three times before threading it downwards into the sock.

  3. Repeat until all daisies are sewn around the logo.
