NAILS | TRIBAL RAINBOW

Sitting out here in the sun, I’m super excited to be able to say that summer has finally hit Toronto! Took you long enough Mother Nature! I was seriously wondering if the rain would ever leave but these clear skies just have my spirits soaring high.

I guess multicoloured rainbows and happy spirits go hand in hand, so to celebrate the summer weather I’ve painted my nails with a watercolour effect and a white tribal print on top, inspired by this. I can’t stop staring at my nails and am totally in love with them! Hopefully I won’t accidentally chip a nail this week, I want this manicure to last forever!

INSPIRATION | SUSPENSION

Maybe I’m a bit late getting on board with this Alexander Wang collection but I believe his brilliance can be and should be appreciated all the time! (It makes it seem like I thoughtfully put this together more than stumbling across an image going ooooooooh DIY? And only realizing its a season or few late; but in my defense his pieces are more staples and timeless than most.)
The architectural structure of his pieces in this collection brings me back to the long ago memories when I was learning how to draw two point perspective buildings. How does this relate you ask? It really doesn’t but when a design evokes an emotion or memory from us it holds something special and becomes more memorable. I think my desire to have and covet all Alexander Wang pieces stem from that. His work tends to reinvent age old processes in fashion with a futuristic flare. Kind of like how the weightlessness appearance of suspension bridges when first introduced were never before seen innovative structures created by mankind. Both are delicate but with the flare of power and resilience that can be found in a woman who wears these suspension pieces.

Inspiration | Fringe

I like fringe, but a lot of people would probably associate it with the mid-west and the cowboys with those ol’ leather jackets and fringe for dayssssss. Fringe usually reminds me of the fabulous 1920s with those flapper dresses, but that might just be me wishing I could attend a legendary Gatsby party across the river. Allow me to refresh you with its modern reincarnation in stylized pieces that you’ll want to have in your own wardrobe. Word of warning, long fringes, both bangs and actual fringes on garments both look great but are a tangled nightmare. STEER CLEAR!
Fringes are a perfect addition to any music festival look this summer to add a little extra flirty movement. It’ll make those hips look like they’re shaking a lot harder than you actually are to draw all those ogling eyes. Happy hip swinging!

Nail Art | Aztec Nails

The Olympics are over (so sad!) so off are the patriotic nail art and in are some new Aztec inspired nails. I recently came across a sale at Shoppers and thought it would be fun to test out some of the new polishes I picked up in this tutorial. Maybe I’ll put up a haul post to show you guys all the new colours I got!

I really love the design of these Aztec Nails because the design isn’t super loud and colours can get interchanged depending on your mood. With the recent warm weather here in Toronto, it has me dreaming about spring and I thought it would be a good time to start transitioning into pastel colours. The blue I’m using, Breezy Blue by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, is a lovely shade but I find that even with three coats, it still is a bit streaky (just thought I’d point that out) but other than that, most other Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes work great!

INSPIRATION | PEARLS FOR DAYS!

Seeing all the new spring colours in stores has me begging for summer to come ASAP! I’ve been craving the sunshine and 20+ degree weather, but sadly winter is here to stay for another five weeks (at least). With the upcoming spring trends I’ve noticed a surge of interest in pearls. Usually when I see pearls it just reminds me of my grandma’s pearls, not really my style. But the modern take by Sophie Bille Brahe has me craving for some pearl and gold accessories. Definitely in love with the pearl bar earrings, if only my ears were pierced….sigh.
You can buy her pieces here.

DIY | Dion Lee 3D Filter Jacket

The long awaited DIY tutorial for Dion Lee’s Filter Jacket is finally complete! It’s been quite a journey for this particular DIY, I remember going out and getting a faux-leather jacket from Forever 21, but fell in love it and couldn’t bare to cut it up. Good thing I didn’t because I found an even better base jacket from Dynamite this holiday season and the filter design works impeccably with it!

NAILS | CHRISTMAS NAILS

As Jenna Marbles would put it, I’m being ‘festive as f***’. For those who haven’t seen the video “What a Girl’s Nail Art Means” click here. I highly recommend it!

Holiday nails are a must and clearly I have way too much time on my hands… but here’s a quick and elegant Christmas nail art design that doesn’t have the tacky green and red combination that makes me cringe at this time of the year.
