Flying into Kelowna, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I saw white peaks through the clouds and I knew I was almost in the mountains. Coming from Eastern Ontario, where it’s fairly flat, the change in elevation and scenery was a breath of fresh air and brought on the anticipation of new places to discover and adventure. This was my first trip out west in the winter months to experience my first big snowboarding trip!
Last year I was unable to make it out due to a knee injury but this year I was determined to travel out west to see friends and to hit up the world renown slopes of British Columbia. To say the least, it did not disappoint. The week was filled with fun times laughing with friends and a lot of fresh powdery snow that we never seem to get back home. A week was more than enough time to take in all the views that Kelowna had to offer and maybe… just maybe… next year, I’ll be ready to hit up other famous mountains. Once you get the taste of that fresh powder you just can’t wait to go back.
Read on for some great spots to check out if you’re ever in Kelowna, British Columbia!
After the new resolution determination wears down and the excitement around ringing in the New Year dies, we’re left reminded that it’s still extremely cold and dreary outside. Though the days may be getting marginally longer, it will be a long time before shorts and sandals will be seen in Canada. These pasty legs will be well hidden under jeans and leggings. As depressing as that sounds, there’s a tonne to get excited about for the next few cold months. Being Canada’s 150th Birthday, a tonne of celebrations are headed our way so strap on those winter boots, put on some mitts, its time to go outside people! Here is a list of some must sees and dos these next few winter months!
Having moved to Montreal recently for a footwear design internship, its been quite the change from comfortable and homey Ottawa. I secured a place downtown, right off of St. Catherine-Ouest and the ever bustling city is filled with chatter and car noises.
Over the past few weeks the sound of french has become comforting and is bringing back the many hours spent in french immersion during high school, which I still firmly believe I did not learn anything in regards to being bilingual (though I have a certificate that says otherwise). Everything is so new, not knowing anyone in the city but thankfully I have some amazing friends who visit me from Ottawa and over the long weekend we got up to a lot of shenanigans exploring the city together. Never have I walked so much, biked until the pain of the potholes still linger and eat such delicious food.
This isn’t quite fashion related but I would think it would fall into the categories of lifestyle and travelling; even though I didn’t exactly jet off to some exotic country that required an 8 hour plane ride. Its just nice to get out of the city from time to time, goofing off and spending time with people without having cyberspace being the middle man. A gorgeous summer day shouldn’t be spent indoors; here a few of my personal favorite summer activities that don’t require heading to Bali. But if you’re already on your way to Bali…take me with you?
- Picnic in the park
- Water activities
- Ice cream
- Bike ride
- Counting clouds
- Outdoor music festivals
Side note: I’m loving how film turns out! Who needs an Instagram filter?!
