Definitely over the cold and the bulky nature of my winter jacket and I’m ready to shed all the layers and break out all the dresses and shorts to show some leg! In anticipation for summer I’ve been perusing the internet and falling in love with a lot of beachy summer wear and I thought I would share some of my favourite styles that may make their way into my closet this season! These are all projects with DIY potential, so vote on your favourites in the comments so I know which projects you guys would like to see!
Wraps & Ruffles
Super in love with the design from Realisation, the ruffles are super cute and I love the star print. I’ve seen this style of dress a lot from Reformation as well and I can’t get enough of it. I love that it’s a wrap design which is flattering on everyone! The ruffles add the perfect amount of girlieness and help with extending the hem length so everything is a bit less risque! Definitely pinned to the top of my to do list for DIYs!
Tiny straps are making a comeback! I love the daintiness and these shoulder baring styles! I especially love the ones where they are self-tie for easy adjustment and the bow is a super cute touch! I think this could also look cool with thicker straps as well!
Tiny bows, long wraps, knotted details… give them all to me! I love this! It’s a new way of cinching that is super flattering on the waist and boob area. Definitely will be making a variation of this as it is super easy and forgiving if measurements aren’t exact! I think its a super flattering style to give the girls a lift in a cute cropped style or as the focal point of a dress.
Macrame and natural bags
I love the natural looking bags. Materials like cord, raffia, and rattan with woven aspects and knotted details brings back casual beach side vibes. I think a pom pom beach bag is definitely on my list of DIYs! Can’t wait for the warmer weather to bring on more nautical and beachside vibes to my closet!
Don’t forget to comment your favourite trends and stay tuned for some awesome summer DIY projects!
Last year, the off the shoulder trend was a huge hit for spring and summer and this year I don’t think the trends will stray very far. I’ve been particularly drawn to sleeve details and ties mixed with a structured material. These images have me wishing for warmer weather to bring on the whites and brights. I can’t wait until I can shake my shoulders in the sun with these fun designs. It really elevates the basic white poplin shirt with something a little bit more girly and fun, yet still edgy and a bit disheveled… but in a good way.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit on clouds? Feel their plush and pillow-y softness? Well this is probably as close as you can get to a fluffy white cloud with these blankets created by Anna Mo.
These blankets are absolutely gorgeous and would be a perfect gift for any home owner who wouldn’t mind getting a bit more cozy this winter. Its a great statement piece with its enlarged knit pattern making it a focal point in any room. I would love to own one of these in a white or cream colour for my bed, snuggle in it on a cold winter’s day curled up watching the snow fall. Can’t get enough of these images either… great execution of the whole project.
You can purchase a blanket here, or even better yet for those of you who are eyeing the blanket with a “hey, I could make you!” you can purchase the merino wool from Anna Mo’s etsy shop, Ohhio to make your very own blanket!
Welcome in the cold weather with these cozy looking nails! So far tutorials are using 3D gel sculpting polish but I’m thinking there’s probably another way to achieve this look for people like me who aren’t a huge fan of the gel polishes. Keep your eyes out for a tutorial soon! In the mean time, bundle up and keep warm with some hot chocolate ~~~
The fun part of living somewhere new is the ability to decorate it and having complete creative freedom (dependant on your landlord) to make your own living space yours. I’m still in the midst of making my tiny apartment home and found these tassel wall art to be particularly fun and enticing.
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!
Haha, my inner child just came out; but who am I kidding, I’m like a little kid everyday!
Sooooo……Is it just me or is there an abundant amount of pineapples, les ananas and a major craving for pina coladas everywhere? I do love pineapple and like how its a great refresh on the usual summer fashion fruits of watermelon and cherries. Though consuming wise, I would take a watermelon over pineapple any day. There really is nothing more refreshing than biting into a slice of watermelon on a hot summer’s day.
Side note: Super in love with the navy blue shorts with the cute pom pom trim! Anyone know where I can get a pair?
Maybe I’m a bit late getting on board with this Alexander Wang collection but I believe his brilliance can be and should be appreciated all the time! (It makes it seem like I thoughtfully put this together more than stumbling across an image going ooooooooh DIY? And only realizing its a season or few late; but in my defense his pieces are more staples and timeless than most.)
The architectural structure of his pieces in this collection brings me back to the long ago memories when I was learning how to draw two point perspective buildings. How does this relate you ask? It really doesn’t but when a design evokes an emotion or memory from us it holds something special and becomes more memorable. I think my desire to have and covet all Alexander Wang pieces stem from that. His work tends to reinvent age old processes in fashion with a futuristic flare. Kind of like how the weightlessness appearance of suspension bridges when first introduced were never before seen innovative structures created by mankind. Both are delicate but with the flare of power and resilience that can be found in a woman who wears these suspension pieces.
I like fringe, but a lot of people would probably associate it with the mid-west and the cowboys with those ol’ leather jackets and fringe for dayssssss. Fringe usually reminds me of the fabulous 1920s with those flapper dresses, but that might just be me wishing I could attend a legendary Gatsby party across the river. Allow me to refresh you with its modern reincarnation in stylized pieces that you’ll want to have in your own wardrobe. Word of warning, long fringes, both bangs and actual fringes on garments both look great but are a tangled nightmare. STEER CLEAR!
Fringes are a perfect addition to any music festival look this summer to add a little extra flirty movement. It’ll make those hips look like they’re shaking a lot harder than you actually are to draw all those ogling eyes. Happy hip swinging!
Seeing all the new spring colours in stores has me begging for summer to come ASAP! I’ve been craving the sunshine and 20+ degree weather, but sadly winter is here to stay for another five weeks (at least). With the upcoming spring trends I’ve noticed a surge of interest in pearls. Usually when I see pearls it just reminds me of my grandma’s pearls, not really my style. But the modern take by Sophie Bille Brahe has me craving for some pearl and gold accessories. Definitely in love with the pearl bar earrings, if only my ears were pierced….sigh.
Loving the back detail of this Dion Lee 3D Filter Jacket! It’s taken a year for me to finally gather all the materials and things necessary for this DIY but it is finally done! Keep you eyes out for the tutorial coming up soon!!!
Man…. Australia is definitely an up and coming to watch, so many good things are coming from down under!
